Giving Up Great for Something Far Greater
This generous Michigan couple sold their most precious possession—the family ranch in Wyoming—to help the children World Vision serves, because God was asking them to “give up something great for something far greater.”
What do you value most?
It happened the second time Stuart Phillips read World Vision president Rich Stearns’ book, The Hole in Our Gospel. He’d settled in to contemplate the book’s challenge to reach out to people in need, when he felt God speaking directly to him. God was asking: “What do you value most?”
Leading by example to inspire others
The answer, Stuart realized, was clear. He and his wife Robin were being asked to use the resources they’d invested in their beloved ranch for a higher purpose: to better the lives of children living in poverty. And as they lead by example, their incredible generosity is inspiring others.
“I think really it’s about just doing what all of us are called to do, asking what God is asking us to do and trying hard to surrender. Whose legacy is it? If you approach it as God’s legacy it changes the rules of the game dramatically.”
